Self-Drive Mini Boat Snorkeling Tour to Icacos Island
Overview
Take the helm of your own mini boat and follow your guides across Fajardo’s turquoise waters. Snorkel coral reefs in La Cordillera Nature Reserve, then cruise to Icacos Island to swim, unwind on white sand, and enjoy snacks and refreshments from your cooler.
This guided adventure combines the thrill of driving with time to explore above and below the water. A hands-on driving lesson and snorkeling introduction help beginners feel comfortable; no boating license is needed. Allow four hours including check-in, with approximately 3.5 hours on tour.
The price covers one mini boat for up to two guests. This is a guided group experience, with each party driving its own boat.
What you’ll do
Start your adventure with check-in at Marina Puerto Chico. Get fitted for gear, store your belongings, and prepare for your day on the water. Then meet your guides for a safety and driving briefing, a route overview, and instructions before boarding your mini boat. Allow approximately 30 minutes for check-in and 30 minutes for preparation and training.
Be the captain for the day as you follow your guides out of Marina Puerto Chico and along Fajardo’s coast. Enjoy views of Las Cabezas de San Juan Nature Reserve and the surrounding coastline on the approximately 30-minute cruise toward the snorkeling area. This is a scenic boat passage, not a land visit to the reserve.
Anchor in La Cordillera Nature Reserve, get fitted with snorkeling gear, and join your guides for a quick Snorkeling 101. Explore the reef ecosystem together, looking for tropical fish and learning about the marine life around you. This approximately one-hour segment includes preparation and guided snorkeling; the reef site depends on sea conditions.
After guided reef snorkeling, take a 10-minute cruise to Icacos Island. Relax on the white-sand beach, swim in turquoise water, and enjoy snacks and refreshments from your cooler. This approximately one-hour segment includes the short cruise to Icacos and time to unwind on the island.
Take the helm one more time for the approximately 30-minute return from Icacos Island to Marina Puerto Chico, following your guides across Fajardo’s coastal waters. Back at the marina, collect your belongings and use the restroom and outdoor rinse facilities. Routes and stop times may vary with weather and sea conditions.
