Hoi An Lantern Making Tour is a great half-day trip to explore Hoi An ancient town highlights but also experience how to make Hoi An lanterns and learn more about local culture, and customs. 

Hoi An Lantern Making Class 

As you know, the lantern is a perfect souvenir to take home from Hoi An. Hanging lanterns in front of your house will bring good fortune and happiness to the family. Taking part in a Lantern Making Class and adding a touch of your own personal flair to an oriental ornament is the ideal way to learn more about Hoi An tradition and Vietnamese culture.

ITINERARY:

  • At 8:00 am or 1:00 pm, our excellent English-speaking tour guide will pick you up at your hotel/ homestay in Hoi An ancient town area. If your hotel is not in the city center, please meet us in front of the Hoi An Historic Hotel at 10 Tran Hung Dao Street, Hoi An. 
  • Hoi An Lantern Making Workshops 

    Upon meeting each other, our local guide will tell you about the Hoi An Lantern Making Tour Program and take you to explore Hoi An ancient town. We will explore and visit all highlight attractions including the Japanese Covered Bridge, Tan Ky Old House, Phuc Kien Assembly Hall, Cantonese Assembly Hall, and Hoi An central market. 

  • Hoi An Lantern Making Tour 

    After that, we will enter a local family who is the owner of a lantern-making workshop. Before doing the Hoi An Lantern Making experience, we will enjoy some candies and green tea from the locals. 

  • To make sure you can learn deeply and easily how to make lanterns, our Hoi An full lantern-making class will cover the complete 11 steps 

    • Step 1: Attach 12 bamboo stakes together with wire threads. 
    • Steps 2 & step 3: Shape the stakes into a sunrise (inverted triangle) or sunset (triangle) formation 
    • Step 4: Insert the bamboo stakes into a hanger and reinforce the stakes with thread. 
    • Step 5: Select your favorite silk and color 
    • Step 6: Apply glue and let it dry for a couple of minutes. 
    • Step 7: Set the silk and stretch the silk to cover the stakes. 
    • Step 8: Fully cover all sides with silk. 
    • Step 9: Cover the top and bottom of the lantern hanger with silk strips 
    • Step 10: Choose a tassel for the lantern base. 
    • Step 11: Completed! Now, your lanterns can be folded and stowed in your luggage to take them home.

  • After all, you will be free to explore Hoi An old town or walk back to your hotel by yourself. We finish Hoi An lantern-making tour.
